The fifty state quarters program marked a radical change in mint production of US coins. The United States Senate has approved legislation (H.R. 3301) allowing the U.S. Mint flexibility in the placement of the mandatory inscriptions on the Washington quarter for the 50 States Circulating Commemorative Coin Program. Approximately every 10 weeks from 1999 to 2008 a new quarter is released marking the 50 states and issued in the order the states joined the Union. Each quarter's reverse will celebrate one of the 50 states with a design honoring its unique history, traditions, and symbols. These coins have raised Numismatics to a new level bringing in new collectors of all ages, especially kids. SPECIFICATIONS: Diameter: 24.3 millimeters Weight: 5.67 grams Composition: .750 copper, .250 nickel bonded to a pure copper core Edge: Reeded (Information gathered from - Wikipedia.org, Coin Resource.org, "The Red Book - A Guide Book of United States Coins", and other sources)
